Canoe Trips

This year at Camp Ranger something new was started---Canoe Trips. These trips lasted one day and one night each, and most of them left camp about 10:00a.m. We were driven to Long Eddy, N.Y. from where the canoes were to be launched. Sandwiches deliciously prepared the evening before, were taken for lunch along the trip. The canoes were paddled down-stream for about four to five hours, and throughout the journey the water varied in speed and depth. Thirteen sets of rapids added a bit of excitement to the journey, yet due to the capable paddlers, there was only one canoe overturned in five trips, a canoe manned by Irwin Tobin. Once the destination was reached, Calicoon, N.Y., dinner was prepared, usually consisting of steak, baked potatoes, and watermelon. After dinner each group took a fast tour of the twon, which terminated at the carvel custard stand. After a night's sleep under the stars, we were picked up on the following morning directly after breakfast.
All the boys gratefully thank Jerry Turner for this wonderful innovation at Camp Ranger.

Riflery

Both boys' and girls' camps actively participated this year at the rifle range, and the popularity of this activity was evidenced when more than 20 campers received NRA ratings this year. Even Color War competition in riflery became more tense when participants were made to fire from the guns they themselves had sighted. This still was overshadowed, though, by the number and rankings of the individuals who achieved ratings this season.
The list is more than double that of last year's, and I take great pride in commending the following campers for achieving theor respective ratings:
