As tennis instructor at Camp Ranger this summer, I was quite pleased by the general participation and interest displayed by the campers. Option periods produced campers eager to learn the fundamentals and more advanced students of the game desiring to learn the finer points. I gave instruction in the fundamental forehand and backhand strokes as well as flat and twist services and forehand and backhand drop shots.

Toward the middle of the summer competition among the members of each group was initiated in the form of a tennis pyramid. After about two weeks of daily challenges, the winners were: Hal Rosenthal, inters; Les Snyder, lower seniors; Peter Dodge, seniors. These players are the best in their respective groups.

During the first week in August, I seeded the top twenty players in camp. These campers then chose their own teams. After two weeks of the elimination tournament, Ghana (comprised of Captain Artie Nager, Buddy Kurzweil, Bob Gordon and Bobby Levine) beat Zanzibar in the finals (Zanzibar was captained by Randy Robins, with Jeff Axelrod, Mike Clair and Richie Hammer rounding out the squad). It was the second year in a row that Buddy Kurzweil was on the winning team. It was also the second year in succession that Randy Robins was in the finals. The Ranger Cup was a very successful and exciting culmination to the tennis program.

In an exciting Watermelon League that included a wide variety of activities, the Giants and Hawks came out on the top in their respective leagues. During the year, the teams of both divisions competed in softball, volleyball, a sing-down, and a baseball quiz. The final standing of the teams for both leagues follow:
